Artist Statement

Being in the Vam Academy for two years has enabled me to discover my art style, which, in general, is drawing and sketching. I like to sketch/draw animals/everyday objects.
My artwork, mostly, is influenced by the artist Ali Heather. He does some crazy, crazy art. His art looks fabulous. Not only that, but I am also really influenced by Moriah Elizabeth, and she, just like Heather, also has a youtube channel where she uploads her artwork. Moriah does mostly squishy/thrift store makeovers where she repaints everyday objects found in thrift stores. I am influenced by their art because, I can't get over the fact, of how good their art is.
However, Coming to the main point, I made three car paintings using the medium paint and a sharpie for some final touches for the Celebration of Learning 2023. The first painting, which is the green one, is named The Ancient, the yellow one, is named, Race Time, and lastly, the blue one is named, Causal. For all three of the paintings I first started by finding a reference photo and then sketching out the basic overall shape of the cars. After that, I went on with the underpainting, and the painting itself. Lastly, I ended by giving the painting some final touches with a sharpie.
One thing that I have learned about art on my own this semester is that when you paint with a brush with hard bristles, it will leave marks on the canvas you are painting on. On the other hand, if you use a softer brush, your painting will be a lot smoother and it will give you a smooth end result.
My favorite piece of art that I have created is the Race Time painting. The reason is, It took the most effort and time to complete, and also because I like the yellow monotone color scheme in that painting.
If I could change one thing about this piece, it would be the background texture of the painting Casual, because it has the texture of paint over paint piled on top because I kept changing the shade of blue for the background.
Lastly, It was surprising for me that all three paintings ended up going together so well, I wasn’t expecting them to turn out so well.
